Decorative Shirt Inset

Do you have any tops that found their way to the back of your closet with a ‘TOO PLUNGING’ neckline? I mean the kind of neckline that you have to wear a scarf, brooch or camisole underneath? Why not add a permanent inset to eliminate the bulk of layering? My mother brought over three tops this week that she never wore because the “V” was too deep. We went through my fabric and trims stash and came up with inserts. We glitzed-up one of the tops with a few extra Glamour Gems. She left that day feeling as though she had three new tops. Cost = Zero! Productive Creative time together=priceless! Here’s how we did it.

1. Try on the top and measure how high up the “V” you would like décolleté’ coverage.
   
   
2. Measure the width across the top of the “V”.
   
   
   
   
3. Place the options inside the shirt to “try them on for appeal” Position the finished selvedge (often decorative) edge across the top.
   
4. Cut out a square large enough to set in place and pin.
   
   
   
5. Stitch in the ditch (where there is already manufacturing stitching. Be sure to match thread colors).
   
6. Trim away excess on the underside to ¾” and pink or serge to finish.
