Materials: (for one decorated placemat)

• SINGER® Commercial Grade sewing machine
• One black pre-made placemat
• One 4" X 5" piece orange Ultrasuede (pumpkin)
• One 2" square solid green fabric (stem)
• One 3" X 4" piece green printed fabric (leaves)
• ¼ yard paper backed fusible web
• Thread to match fabrics
• Sharp trimming scissors
• Patterns 

Before cutting: Trace patterns onto paper-backed fusible web BEFORE cutting appliqué pieces. Attach paper-backed fusible web to wrong side of fabrics, following manufacturer’s directions. 

• One pumpkin – remember to cut out eyes, nose and mouth so black placemat can show through appliqué.
• One stem
• Two leaves (remember to mirror image leaves when cutting)

 Directions:

1. Place fusible side of pumpkin appliqué to right side of placemat 1½" from side and bottom edge of placemat. Fuse according to manufacturer’s directions.
   
   
2.  Thread machine with orange thread in the needle and the bobbin. Straight stitch close to all raw edges of pumpkin appliqué.
   
   
3. Place two leaves at top edge of pumpkin (refer to photo for placement). Fuse in place following manufacturer’s directions.
   
   
4. Thread green thread in machine in both needle and bobbin. Do a narrow zig-zag stitch around raw edges of each leaf.
   
   
5. Place stem at top edge of pumpkin over leaves. Fuse in place following manufacturer’s directions.
   
   
6. Do a narrow zig-zag stitch around raw edges of stem, to complete placemat.
