Then cut:
  • One rust leaf
  • One orange leaf
  • One tan leaf

Directions:  ½" seam allowance

  1. Fold bottle cover piece, wrong sides together, so it measures 17½" x 8".Remove paper from leaves. Position leaves, as desired, on right side of cover at least 3" from bottom edge and at least 1" from side raw edge.(See photo)

  2. Fuse leaves in place, following manufacturer’s directions.

  3. Place variegated thread in needle and brown thread in bobbin. Set machine for a medium length straight stitch.

  4. Stitch around one leaf about ⅛" from raw edge. Continue to straight stitch leaf veins in the center of the leaf. NOTE: If desired, draw veins onto leaf with chalk pencil before stitching.

  5. Repeat stitching around remaining two leaves.

  6. Replace variegated thread with brown thread in the machine. Right sides together, fold brown fabric in half to measure 17½" x 8". Sew along side and bottom leaving a ½" unstitched opening 4" from top edge as shown.

  7. Press seams open.

  8. Right sides together, and raw edges matching, sew the short ends of the green cuff piece together forming a tube. Press seam open.

  9. Right sides together, place cuff to wine cover with top raw edge and seams matching.Sew around entire top edge.

  10. Fold down cuff to inside of bag and press.

  11. Topstitch 3⅜" from top seamed edge of bottle cover. Stitch again ½" away, forming a casing for the ribbon tie. NOTE: A line of stitching should be on the top of the opening and another on the bottom of the opening left in step  6.

  12. To create a square bottom of the bag, match side seam to bottom seam and mark a line 1½" down from point.  Stitch on line. Repeat for other side, matching side fold to bottom seam.

  13. Press seams toward bottom of bag.

  14. Remove brown thread from needle and replace with variegated thread.

  15. Set machine for stitch #31 – leaf vine (0R other desired decorative stitch pattern).

  16. Topstitch around top edge of bag ½" from seamed edge using variegated thread and the decorative stitch.

  17. Attach a large safety pin on one end of the ribbon. Insert safety pin with ribbon attached into casing opening, threading it through the entire casing and coming out the same opening.

  18. Insert wine bottle into cover. Pull ends of ribbon to gather cover around neck of wine bottle. Tie ribbon into a bow to secure. Trim ends as desired.
