"Pockets for Melrose Apron" Sewing Project

These novelty aprons make great last minute personalized gifts. You can embroider, appliqué, paint or use iron-on Glamour Gems to customize them. Think of them as a blank pallet and let your creativity soar!

Supplies:

  • ‘Blank’ Melrose Apron
  • ¼ yd. Fabric of choice

Instructions:

  1. Steam press your apron so it lays flat

  2. Place your apron over the doubled piece of pocket fabric and trace around edge. Cut around markings.

  3. With right sides together, sew around pocket edges leaving a small 3” opening at bottom. Clip along curve and across corner seam allowances.  Turn right side out and press.

  4. Add pocket decorations such as ribbons now. TIP: To eliminate pinning and ensure accuracy,  iron on surface embellishments like ribbon with fusible seam tape first, then stitch in place.

  5. Pin to apron and top stitch around edges. Backtack at top edges. Sew a straight seam down center or 1/3 of the way across large piece to form smaller pockets. That’s one pretty tool bag!
