        • Very fine sandpaper or square of brown paper bag
        • Stylus or pencil
        • Transfer paper
        • FolkArt Clearcote (785)
        • Matte or Satin Sealer
        • Toothbrush (optional)

          Directions:

          • Preparation
            • Cut the RocLon fabric to 24"x36".
            • Using a roller, a sponge, or a large brush, base coat the entire surface with 2 coats of Midnight, letting each coat dry thoroughly. Sand each coat with very fine sandpaper or a piece of brown paper bag, without lettering, to knock down the nap of the fabric between coats.
          • Painting
            • Snow
              • Load the 1" Scruffy with Wicker White and then add a touch of Brilliant Ultramarine Blue on one corner. Pounce snow along bottom of floor cloth. Let dry.
            • Tree
              • Double load the 1" Flat with Burnt Umber and Wicker White. Using the chisel edge, paint the tree trunk.  Double load the 1" Flat with Thicket and Yellow Citron.  Using the chisel edge and starting at the bottom of the tree, paint downward strokes, working up tree from bottom to top and overlapping your strokes as you go up. Alternate the leading color to add depth. Flick the brush up and out to create shape points at the tips. Let dry.
            • Snowmen
              • Double load Scruffy brush* with Wicker White, add a touch of Butter Pecan to one corner.  Using a pouncing motion and keeping the Butter Pecan to the outer edge, paint the snowmen. Start with the snow-girl at the top of the tower. Paint each snow-person starting with the bottom section and ending with the head. * Use the brush size that best fits for the size of the element.
              • Cheeks
                • Load the 1/4" Scruffy with Wicker White and then add a touch of Engine Red to make a pink color; pounce the cheeks. Use the 1/8" Scruffy for the cheeks of the smallest snow-people.
              • Noses
                • Double load the # 8 Flat or the #6 Flat with Pure Orange and Burnt Umber, using the flat side of the brush; paint the noses. Using the chisel of the brush leading with the Pure Orange side “clean-up” the edges. Load the #2 Script Liner with inky Burnt Umber and add detail lines to the noses.
              • Eyes and Mouths
                • Load the #2 Script Liner with inky Burnt Umber. Paint the eyes using tiny dots and then paint the mouths, eyelashes, and eyebrows. Add a touch of Wicker White to the brush and add highlights to the eyes.
              • Ribbons, Scarves and String Bow
                • Double load the #8 Flat with Engine Red and Wicker White, Midnight and Wicker White or Kelly Green and Fresh Foliage. Using the flat side of the brush, paint the flat ribbons, scarves and the tie on the apron. Embellish with stripes or outlines. Add fringes using the #2 Script Liner and inky paint. Load the #2 Script Liner with inky Engine Red and then drag the tip through Wicker White. Using the tip of the brush, paint the string bow.
              • Branch Arms
                • Double load the #10 Flat with Wicker White and Burnt Umber. Using the chisel edge leading with Wicker White, paint the branch arms.
              • Top Hat
                • Load the #12 Flat with Licorice and then add a touch of Wicker White to one corner. Using the flat side of the brush, keeping the Wicker White to the outer edge, paint the two circles of the hat. Using the chisel edge of the brush leading with Licorice, pull a line at the bottom edge. Add a touch of Wicker White to the entire chisel edge of the brush. Using a light touch, pull curved streaks from the top edge (refer to the color worksheet for placement).
            • Finishing Touches
              • The star for the top of the tree is base coated with Wicker White, if you do not do this step the color will be dulled by the back ground. Allow drying and then coat with Yellow Light, allow drying and then add Inca Gold Metallic as the top coat.
              • The Ornaments are first base-coated by dipping the handle of the 1" brush into Wicker White and dotting small circles onto the tree.  Allow drying and dot with a primary color, or Inca Gold Metallic. Let dry. Load the #2 Script Liner with Wicker White and paint the highlights on each ornament.
              • Load the #2 Script Liner with inky Wicker White, paint the stars in the sky. Dip the handle of the #2 Script Liner into Wicker White and dot the very center of each star.
              • Using a very inky Wicker White and either a toothbrush or your #1 Flat brush, splatter some snow onto the floor cloth. Test the splatter on a piece of newspaper or cardboard first. Allow painting to completely dry. Spray with two or three coats Matte or Satin Sealer, letting dry completely between coats.
